A golden spring for González Byass sherries

A golden spring for Gonzalez Byass sherries

Ten wines from House Tío Pepe have triumphed both at the Decanter World Wine Awards and the International Wine Challenge and received excellent scores in Robert Parker’s publication, The Wine Advocate.

The wine gems comprising the collection Colección de Finos Palmas, some of the 30-year-old exclusive V.O.R.S. soleras, as well as Palo Cortados Añada 1987 and Leonor have again positioned González Byass as one of the most awarded Spanish wineries worldwide.

Scores and medals in a golden spring for Gonzalez Byass sherries

In the first place, Fino Tres Palmas, a genuine Fino Amontillado, has received the Best Fortified Wine over 15£ Award at the Decanter World Wine Awards. This competition, organised by the prestigious British magazine Decanter, has also awarded Gold Medals to Amontillado Cuatro Palmas, Fino Dos Palmas, Del Duque, Noé, Palo Cortado Añada 1987 and Leonor.

In the meantime, the 33rd edition of the International Wine Challenge awarded the Amontillado Trophy and the Sherry Trophy to Amontillado Cuatro Palmas; the Fino Trophy to Fino Dos Palmas and the Palo Cortado Trophy to Palo Cortado Añada 1987. Likewise, Fino Tres Palmas, Matusalem and Leonor obtained a gold medal each in this competition, entered by 15,000 wines from around the world. In addition, the jury nominated Antonio Flores, master winemaker and master blender of González Byass, in the Winemaker of the Year awards, which reward the work of the best winemakers in the world.

Some superb scores awarded by Robert Parker’s publication The Wine Advocate round off this “golden spring” for González Byass: Palo Cortado Añada 1987 and Amontillado Cuatro Palmas received 97 points each, whereas Fino Tres Palmas and Fino Dos Palmas obtained 93 points each; finally, Fino Una Palma and Tío Pepe en Rama 2015 were rated with 92 and 91 points, respectively.
